Five Questions Every Parent Should Ask When Choosing A Dance School
There are five questions every parent should ask when looking for a dance school to ensure the teaching methods are healthy, the facilities are top quality and the philosophies and practices are what you want your child exposed to.
1. What kind of dance school is it?
Every school is different some revolve around competition some fun and others education. At Pure movement we focus on education but not without fun, our educational approach is always fun as our teachers use innovative and engaging methods to teach high-quality dance technique. Our program focuses on building technical and performance skills in addition to encouraging self-esteem by recognizing each student’s gifts and talents.
2. What is the quality of instruction?
Having teachers who are trained to teach dance increase student growth and knowledge base while reducing the risk of injury. At Pure Movement our teachers are highly qualified many holding Bachelors of Fine and performing arts degrees in dance, with specialized training in dance pedagogy, dance kinesiology and dance injury prevention. Many hold elite teaching certificates are University professors and lectures as well as nationally recognized choreographers and presenters.
At Pure Movement, we ensure that all students are treated with the same respect and receive the highest quality training. Our teachers are conscientious and take into consideration each child’s learning style and need to ensure their personal success.
3. Can I get immediate assistance and service?
In many schools, the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and manages the administration. By trying to manage two jobs at once, the students may be affected as the teacher uses class time for customer service issues, or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class. To have a good experience it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details like costumes or schedules, even if a teacher is occupied in a class. At Pure Movement, we have an office manager available during studio hours so you can get immediate assistance.
4. What are the facilities like?
This question is important for two reasons, first to again make sure your student is receiving safe quality training by using appropriate equipment and second that it is convenient and accessible to your family. Pure Movement is housed in a beautiful and spacious state of the art facility. Along with a large waiting room and ample parking just outside the front door, there are also three enormous dance studios equipped with wall to wall mirrors, quality sound systems, ceiling fans and professional ballet barres. But most important of course are the floors. At Pure Movement, we use professionally built naturally sprung dance floors. These floors provide give causing less chance of injury and fatigue to the dancer’s legs and muscles. As an extra precaution, we have installed a special harlequin dance surface over the dance floor to provide even more cushion along with a slip-resistant surface. These are the only floors of their kind in Lincoln and are the same as those used by Julliard, the Ballet Russe, Rockefeller University and the Joffrey Ballet.
5. What are the recitals like?
At many studios, recitals are often expensive and tedious. At Pure Movement, we know that no one wants to sit through a four to six-hour recital so our focus is to be professional and convenient. Our recital is viewed as an opportunity for each student to shine not just a select few. Along with watching their student perform parents enjoy how easy the process is and the attention we give to ensure that music, costuming and choreography are appropriate for each student's age and skill level. Our goal is to make the event enjoyable for everyone by doing our best to keep the rehearsals hassle free, never allowing our recital to be excessive in length and always keeping them tasteful and professional. Our recital has been described as sophisticated, top quality and the best-kept secret in town.
